Fort Leavenworth Access Control Changes

All visitors to Fort Leavenworth, and thus Hancock Lodge, will have to go through new installation access rules on or about 4 February 2015. Due to increased secure posture gaining access to Fort Leavenworth will become much more complicated. Visitors will be screened using NCIC III checks, which means it could take up to 15 minutes or more than the already lengthy process if one does not have a DOD issued id card. If a brother wishes to visit the Lodge or the Armed Forces Scottish Rite please contact the secretary some days before so we can try and help with the paperwork. We may have to provide escorts. We will post updates here on the website and on Facebook.

For more information, visit the Ft. Leavenworth Garrison website’s gate information page and the information paper entitled “Vetting and Credentialing of Visitors and Uncleared Contractors Requiring Access to Fort Leavenworth”.

Grand Lodge Annual Communication – Freemason Charity Auction

DATE:           January 2, 2015
TO:                 Kansas Masonic Lodge Secretary
FROM:           Robert A. Shively, CAE, CFRE, Kansas Masonic Foundation Executive Director
RE:                 Annual Communication Auction Event

In early Fall your Lodge received a communication from Auction Committee Chair, Deputy Grand Master Daren Kellerman, concerning the Kansas Masonic Foundation conducting an auction, in conjunction with the Friday night dinner during the Annual Communication in March.  The proceeds from this event will benefit Brothers and families in need across Kansas through the newly created Freemasons Endowment.

While I think we can all agree that this type of initiate is long overdue it is time for all of us to come together and solidify the Promise we made when we took our Obligation.  This Endowment, when fully funded, will do just that.

We are asking each Kansas Lodge to help by soliciting or contributing at least one item for the auction.  There will be approximately 15-18 items sold at live auction during the Friday dinner and appropriately 150+ items offered by online and silent auction prior to the live event.  All Kansas Masons will be able to participate as the auction items will be available for bidding online at the Kansas Masonic Foundation website and a method of absentee bidding for those unable to attend Annual Communication in March.

I have attached a listing of items already donated by Lodges and Masons across the State to help with idea generation by your Lodge.  These are the type of auction items that we are seeking—ones that have a broad appeal to the Craft.  If you’re Lodge would rather simply donate money for the event and allow the Foundation to help secure items that would be great.  The Foundation is working on a number of travel packages and can use the funding to secure airline tickets, or other travel related aspects, to enhance the value of the package.

The Most Worshipful Grand Master Michael A. Halleran has sanctioned this event and applauds all of our efforts to help our needed Brothers and their families.  We would like to have a description of the item your Lodge is donating as soon as possible and by no later than February 1st so that we can help promote the item on the website and maximize dollars realized.  Your Lodge will be recognized in the auction catalog and other promotional marketing efforts, as well as receiving C-Club credit from the Foundation.

Please discuss this at your next Lodge meeting and help a fellow Kansas Brother in need.  Also please encourage any of your members wishing to participate on their own to do so as well.  Should you have any questions or would like to discuss you auction item idea with someone, please contact Ms. Diane McDermed at (785) 357-7646 or at Diane@KansasMasonic.Foundation.

Thank you for sharing this with the Brethren.
